Polaris Office

Complete and more affordable alternative to MS Office.

Although MS Office is by far the most used office suite in the world, one of its main disadvantages is its high cost.

Nevertheless, there are several more affordable options.
Polaris Office is one of these. It offers pretty much the same features as its MS counterpart, only with different names. It has a text processor named Polaris Word, a slideshow creator named Polaris Slide, a spreadsheet creator named Polaris Sheet, and a PDF viewer and editor called Polaris PDF, which are alternatives to MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat, respectively. A program that is not included in MS Office is Polaris ODT, that creates Open Document Text files, which are XML-based files of different types.

The program has an attractive startup screen from which you can open the type of document you need. Also, you can set up a theme for all the programs. The interface of each program is very akin to that of MS Office, so if you have used it and are new to Polaris, you will get used very quickly to its features.

An interesting characteristic is that you can store your documents in Polaris' cloud service, thus making them available anywhere. Also, there are versions of the program for MacOS, Android, and iOS.

A disadvantage I found is that the shareware version opens several advertisements at the startup of each program, which is very annoying. Nevertheless, it is still a good alternative to MS Office.

The shareware version has several limitations, and can be used during 7 days. If you find the program useful and want to use it longer, then you will need to purchase a license.

Pros

  • Compatible with MS Office
  • More affordable than MS Office
  • Nice interface
  • Lightweight installation file

Cons

  • Too many advertisements in the shareware version

Drops footnotes when I re-open to edit. This is personal unfunded research. Multiple error messages will not save. Cannot prevent the loss. When I share with another e-mail, it's not allowed to edit footnotes. The most frustrating program I have ever used. I should have purchased Microsoft Office for $300.

Absolutely fascinating office-suite!It's free, my documents are automatically saved to the cloud so that I can immediately view in my phone also. Small footprint, fast loading and installation, thanks for offering such office tool for free.
